Deborah Brett’s favourite winter picks

Fashion editor and ceramicist Deborah Brett talks us through her must-have outfits for the coming season.

Oh, the frivolity of raiding a grown-up’s wardrobe when we were younger. Fascinated by every sequin-dazzled frock, shiny buttons on suit jackets and slipping our tiny feet into shoes several sizes too large. As adults, we still embrace the thrill of dressing up – not least when an expert is telling us how to do it.

So we asked stylist and journalist Deborah Brett to choose pieces from our latest winter collection that gave her the dress-up vibes. She mixed things up. She made some things more casual and others seriously glamourous. Here, she tells us what she’ll be wearing during the festive season – from cosy knits to smart tailoring.

Time to party

“For Christmas Eve I’ve got my eye on the chunky Fair Isle with alpaca. It comes in an iced white and grey. It’s super soft and longer in line. And I loved the idea of pairing it with something super elegant, like this white sequin skirt. How chic is that?”

Tux touches

“I’ve fallen in love with masculine tailoring and my idea of the chicest new-year look is wearing a white tuxedo jacket. If you’re bold enough wear it head-to-toe. Or why not layer it over classic satin-stripe trousers and this super-cool, sequin dinner shirt. The tiniest of sparkles gives this look an added touch of festivity.”

Nordic knits

“The Donegal wool knit is a lighter gauge in a beautiful grey marl. I wanted to pair it with something whimsical, such as this tulle skirt, adding a more masculine touch – the fantastic long side-split coat – for a chic and fun weekend look.”

Time to shine

“These diamanté earrings are the simplest way to add sparkle to any outfit. I’ve taken to wearing them with a slick of red lipstick and the softest of sweaters. They elevate any look.”

Happy feet

“These appear on my wish list each and every year. A pair of the softest bed socks. Simple but what a treat on cold nights.”
