Jumper season, decoded

Lightweight sweaters pulled on when there’s a chill in the air. Chunky cable knits snuggled into on icy days. Chic roll necks layered under teddy coats – a scarf bundled on top. A good jumper is one of the hardest-working pieces in our winter wardrobes – here’s how to get it right.

Neutral notes

From the very first frosts right through to the brisk days of spring, we’ll be reaching for cosy and comforting knitwear. Thrown on over jeans for dog walks. Dressed up with a midi skirt for drinks at the pub. Luxe-ing up loungewear around the house. These pieces need to be adaptable, so sticking to a pared-back colour palette is an easy way to ensure you get maximum wear. Try soft tones of ivory or taupe that can be worn head-to-toe for an elegant take on winter dressing, or mixed in with darker neutrals, like black, chocolate and denim blue, as well.

Fringe benefits

To get the most mileage out of your neutral knits, look for styles with added interest. The difference really is in the details – ribbed sleeves, tonal colourblocking, or contrast stitching – these small touches will ensure that your outfit feels considered, even if you’re just on a quick supermarket run. New for the season? Try a hint of fringing. Our classic funnel neck, updated with chunky tassels and geometric stitching, has just the right amount of texture.

Softly does it

A great jumper should feel like being wrapped in a luxurious blanket. Cosseting and comforting – a warming hug against your skin as you shrug it on. Soft wool, lofty cashmere and fuzzy alpaca yarns will all be oh-so-cosy on cold winter mornings. The natural fibres are breathable, helping to keep you snug, as well as regulate your temperature. Plus, we use yarns certified by The Responsible Wool Standard and The Good Cashmere Standard®, which guarantees animal welfare and promotes responsible farming.
