Gifting – it’s personal

Some gifts will be well received on almost any occasion, but it’s the extra thoughtful touches that makes them memorable…

For those who love to get everyone together

Useful and beautiful, gifts for the home are an easy choice for the keen hosts, homemakers and anyone moving into a new place.

Remember, remember...

The simplest way to personalise is to hark back to time you’ve spent together before – were you sipping champagne? Shiny new coupes make a great choice. Or were you cupping a warm tea in both hands for a cosy chat? Try a pair of matching mugs. Reference your last (or next) meet up on the gift tag, so they’ll be reminded of you when they use them.

Try this...

Elegant serveware that looks as beautiful on the shelf as it does on the table is a welcome addition in any kitchen. But you can take it to the next level by including a family recipe in the gift, as well. Handwrite it, or create and print something beautiful, then use it to line the bottom of the dish before you wrap it.

New home...

In the classic film It’s A Wonderful Life, Mrs Bailey presents her new neighbours with a housewarming gift: “Bread, so that this house may never know hunger; salt, that life may always have flavour, and wine, that joy and prosperity may reign forever.” A salt cellar makes a beautiful keepsake alongside an artisanal loaf of bread, some flaky salt and their favourite bottle of wine – especially for film buffs.

For those with great travel stories

Holidays remembered and trips to look forward to: it’s easy to create tailored gifts for seasoned explorers. Check their social media for inspiration of where they’ve been and where they’d love to return to.

Take me with you...

Our passport-size bags are an organisation essential for anyone catching a flight (so flat you can wear it under a jumper so it doesn’t even count as an in-cabin bag). Space for the all-important passport and mobile phone, there’s also room for gifters to slip in a slender guide book, or even some pre-booked tickets for an upcoming trip.

Wish you were here...

Our Edit Collection fragrances are inspired by elegant destinations around the world. Anyone who has recently been to Italy will love Portofino or Amalfi Lemon, Kyoto Oud captures memories of Japan and Santa Rosa is a dream of California. Alternatively, transport them straight to beach destinations with our much-loved Seychelles or Sea Salt.

Wish you were there...

Modern life means it’s a rare delight to develop pictures into actual, tangible photographs these days – all the more reason to personalise the gift of a beautiful frame with a carefully selected image. One of you and the recipient together is always heartfelt, but if you don’t have that, you could use one they’ve posted online of a recent trip.

For the most stylish ones

Keep it classic and timeless but go for something a little bit unexpected to win over those who love an accessory – for themselves or their home.

Everyday, made special...

Luxurious versions of everyday items are always a winner when it comes to presents. Everyone owns a pillowcase, and it probably doesn’t look like a giftable item. But a pure-silk pillowcase, that feels like laying your head on a cloud of softness, and helps to reduce friction against skin and hair in the night, is a truly luxurious choice.

Goes with anything...

It can be hard to guess other people’s taste, so choosing items that will slot effortlessly into any space is the simplest way to go. The way to tailor them to the person you're gifting them to, is to match the items with what you’re likely to do with that person. Curling up on the sofa? You can never have too many cushions.

A place in the world...

Considering the provenance and meaning behind a gift infuses it with so much more personality. We love moonstones, because they signify love, hope, healing and protection. The moonstone jewellery in our new Jaipur collection is handmade in India, supporting local artisans and craftspeople.

Personalise any gift

A third of any present is in the wrapping – a chance to show that you know it’s the thought that counts… and that you have thought about it! Is your recipient stylish and minimalist? Reflect that in the paper you choose. It doesn’t have to be extravagant: pristine white tissue tied up with a silver ribbon always looks timeless. Or are they an eco-warrior? Consider swapping wrap for a tied piece of fabric that can be reused. Are they a budding writer? Could you wrap it in newspaper, or print of a front page from the day they were born? There are lots of creative possibilities.

Finally, don’t forget the tag. Whether you purchase something lovely or cut your own from the back of an old greetings card, what you write makes all the difference. Ditch the ‘From’ and ‘To’ and go for one of the following as a starting point, instead:
I got you this because …
This reminded me of …
I thought this would go so well with …
