Plumptious cushions you just want to sink into, cocooning throws you can’t help but wrap yourself up in… It’s not just our wardrobes that need a seasonal switch over. Beyond piling on a couple of snuggly extra layers, how do we take a sofa that felt oh-so light and airy in summer into one that is welcoming and cosy for the cooler months? Start by adding warmth through textures and tones. Look to warm caramels, earthy browns and rustic taupes in natural fabrics, such as linen, cotton and wool. Avoid bold patterns as we’re aiming for a relaxing effect, but a well-placed stripe is a chic way to add interest. Mix colours and fabrics – combining complementary-but-differing styles feels so much fresher than matching everything. The same is true when considering cushion sizes. Play with scale. One extra-large cushion, a medium size and a low-but-long design is more modern than lots of little ones. Supersize the biggest style of them all and aim for the greatest your sofa can handle, it’ll feel extra inviting and ready-to-fall-into – all the better for curling up on. Afternoon snooze obligatory.
