2. Dress your bed
It’s the focal point of the bedroom, and rightly so. Our founder, Chrissie Rucker OBE, shares some tips on how to style a bed with an expert eye.
i.
Turn back the top sheet. For a great tailored look, place the pillows on the bed and then turn the top sheet back, taking some of the duvet or blankets back with it, too. When you get into bed, the covers will then roll easily back up over your shoulders and neck.
ii.
For the perfect, fully-dressed bed, add a bedspread or quilt. If you like the cover to touch the floor and give a more generous and complete bed coverage, choose the size up from your actual bed size, especially if you have a high bed base, divan or bedstead. If you want it to drape over the sides of the bed, not touching the floor and revealing a small amount of the bed linen underneath on each side, choose the same size as your bed.
iii.
Small cushions are really versatile. Use them placed squarely on the bed for a simple, tailored look. Or, scatter them casually or mix them with larger cushions to give a layered effect. Large, square pillows look good when used as cushions, especially on larger beds and those with high headboards.
