Rethinking the Christmas jumper

Move over light-up Rudolphs and gaudy knits, the new festive knits are subtle, chic and perfect to wear all winter.

Try: Fair Isle designs

From the Scottish isles to Reykjavik, this geometrically patterned design with an intricate yolk pattern around the neck and shoulders is a cold-weather staple. So cosy you can wear one instead of a coat. Warm, homely, simple monochrome that’s irresistibly festive. Pair with midi skirts in tulle, or sequins for a full-on celebration look.

Try: stars and snowflakes

The acceptable face of novelty, in December this look works even for office attire. Stars feel festive during advent, but don’t date come spring (everyone wants a stellar 2025, right?), so there’s no need to fold them up when the new year arrives. Snowflakes can feel overtly festive… until it snows. If you’re off on a ski break, these are perfect for packing.

Try: subtle sparkle

If you really want to keep your nod to the season away from anything too Christmassy, sparkle is the way to go. Choose from delicate knits with sequins twisted into the yarn to keep the distribution equal, sparkly threads for a shimmering silver-frost effect or foil prints which look like snow flurries.
