The fabric care guide

We are passionate about quality fabrics, designing pieces made to last and be loved for years. From the most beautiful linen and the purest cotton to the softest cashmere and the latest sustainable materials, discover how to best care for these premium pieces. Always check each care label for individual wash instructions to keep the garment in top condition.

Cashmere

The next best thing to a hug, our exceptional-quality luxurious cashmere is light and airy, yet wonderfully warm, and has the most beautiful drape. Certified by The Good Cashmere Standard®, the yarns in our knitwear are sustainably sourced and produced.

How to wash

  1. Lay cashmere completely flat and use a pilling shaver to remove bobbles. Pilling combs should only be used very gently as they can damage lightweight cashmere knits.
  2. Select a gentle washing detergent. Never use biological detergents, as they contain enzymes that break down fibres.
  3. Fill a sink with lukewarm water. Add the required amount of detergent and distribute throughout.
  4. Turn the garment inside out and submerge in the water for five to 10 minutes. Do not soak.
  5. Rinse in cool water, until it runs clear.
  6. Squeeze to remove excess water, but do not wring. Lay flat on a dry towel, roll up and press to remove excess.
  7. Reshape and lay flat to dry.

How to store

  1. Avoid hanging cashmere, as it will distort the fragile fibres and lose the garment’s shape.
  2. Store folded in acid-free tissue paper, or a moth-proof cloth bag, to protect it and keep it in great condition.
  3. To keep moths away, we recommend using cedar balls.

Cotton

Super breathable, durable, and luxuriously soft, cotton is simply beautiful to wear. We meticulously source ours from the very best producers worldwide. Our organic cottons are grown using no chemical fertilisers and less water than conventional cotton.

How to wash

  1. Wash temperatures can vary depending on the colours. Darks and brights are best washed at 30°C.
  2. Make sure to keep whites separate, so they stay bright. Avoid fabric softeners, as they can dull the finish.
  3. Once out of the machine, shake the garment into shape while still damp.

How to store

  1. Dry flat, or hang, to prevent the need for ironing. Machine drying may cause shrinking.
  2. If ironing is required, use the steam setting, or iron when the garment is still slightly damp.

Denim

From sustainable eco-wash techniques that reduce water usage to innovative stretch technology and organic-cotton blends, our denim is fantastically durable and versatile.

How to wash

  1. Wash denim as sparingly as possible, as it increases the potential for fading. A few times per season is sufficient. Avoid using bleach.
  2. A delicate setting at 30°C, or lower, is preferable – mimicking the hand-washing process.
  3. Turn denim inside out and close zips and buttons to minimise the potential for colour running.
  4. Wash with similar colours and use a small amount of detergent.
  5. Make sure not to overload the machine. This can cause creasing – especially with black denim.
  6. Avoid wringing out, tumble drying and quick-spin cycles, as this can cause fibre deterioration.
  7. Instead, gently roll up and press out any excess water.

How to store

  1. Let denim dry as naturally as possible.
  2. Flatten the garment into shape and air dry. Do not tumble dry – the weight of the denim will help pull out creases.
  3. If necessary, iron when damp on a high-steam setting, but be sparing as this can weaken fibres.
  4. Denim can be hung or folded. When hanging, fold at the knees with the waist pointing towards the floor.

Linen

A true wonder fabric – and one of the most sustainable. Originating from flax plants, our beautifully lightweight linen is sourced in Europe. Linen is exceptionally cool to wear and is temperature regulating, so you can wear it all year around. Linen becomes softer with washing, while creases give it a gorgeously relaxed look.

linen care

How to wash

  1. Linen can be machine washed at 40°C. Finer linen should be washed at 30°C.
  2. Always wash linen inside out to protect surface fibres. Use a fabric conditioner to help soften.
  3. For the best results, make sure the machine isn’t too full, so garments can soak up water properly.

How to store

  1. Dry linen on a wooden, or padded, hanger immediately after washing. Do not tumble dry.
  2. Turn inside out and iron slightly damp to reduce creasing. Avoid very high temperatures and be wary of pressing around creases and seams, as this can weaken the fabric’s fibres.

Polyester

Naturally water repellent and crease resistant, this strong man-made fibre is often blended with natural fabrics. Sustainable polyesters are made from recycled plastics. Practical and machine washable, pleated fabrics need polyester to retain their pleats permanently.

How to clean

  1. Machine wash at 30°C on a normal cycle. Make sure to separate colours.

How to store

  1. Line dry, or hang.
  2. You can tumble-dry cool, but remove from the dryer immediately to avoid static.
  3. Press on a low heat, or steam.

Silk

Not only does the smooth, lustrous finish of our silk feel sensational, its natural properties are believed to replenish hair and skin moisture. It is a delicate fibre that drapes beautifully. It can be woven in many weights and with different finishes, such as crepe-de-chine or georgette. Satin describes the technique when fabrics, such as silk or polyester, are woven to create a high-shine glossy finish.

How to wash

  1. Fill a basin with lukewarm water and add a gentle, specialist detergent.
  2. Turn the garment inside out and hand wash for a few minutes. Do not soak, as this can release dye.
  3. Rinse until the water runs clear.
  4. Never wring silk items and do not put them in the tumble dryer.
  5. To remove excess water, place the garment on a white towel and roll to absorb excess moisture.

How to store

  1. Dry flat on a rack, or use a padded hanger, so the garment doesn’t slip, or lose its shape.
  2. To reduce creasing, hang in the bathroom while taking a shower, or steam with an iron at the lowest temperature.

TENCEL™ Lyocell

An environmentally friendly alternative to cotton, derived from renewable raw-wood sources, our certified TENCEL™ Lyocell boasts long-lasting comfort, silkiness and enhanced breathability.

How to wash

  1. Hand washing is preferable. Fill a sink with cool water and add a delicate detergent.
  2. Submerge the garment and soak for up to 30 minutes.
  3. Rinse well by running cool water through the item, until it runs clear.
  4. As Tencel blends can vary, please check individual instructions when machine washing.
  5. Make sure the water temperature is cold and the spin is low.
  6. Do not wring, instead press the water out of the item.

How to store

  1. Place on a hanger to dry.
  2. If wrinkles appear, we recommend steaming for the best and safest finish.

TENCEL™ Modal

Often considered a substitute for silk because of its smooth and drapey feel, sustainable TENCEL™ Modal is made from renewable raw-wood materials. Super soft and extra comfortable, it’s perfect for jersey knits and nightwear – and light enough for delicate scarves.

modal care

How to clean

  1. Wash on a delicate/cold-water cycle with a non-biological detergent. Use a mesh wash bag on more delicate pieces.
  2. Modal can be dried flat, or tumble-dried on a low heat, but must be removed when still slightly damp.

How to store

  1. Modal is fairly crease resistant, but if you do need to iron, press on the reverse with a medium iron using a pressing cloth.

Viscose

With a beautiful drape and smooth feel, viscose is another super-soft silk substitute. Derived from renewable raw-wood materials, it is also known as rayon.

How to clean

  1. Some viscose can be machine washed and others not, so check the care label.
  2. Turn the garment inside out before machine washing and use a delicate wash setting and detergent (no fabric conditioner), with cold water and a low spin.
  3. For hand-wash viscose, soak for 30 minutes in cold water with a gentle detergent and rinse with cold water. Do not wring and dry flat.

How to store

  1. Never use a tumble dryer, as viscose can shrink.
  2. Steam to remove any wrinkles.

Wool

Naturally renewable, hypoallergenic and crease resistant, the benefits of wool are numerous. Our wools are sublimely soft, warm and cosy against the skin.

wool care

How to wash

  1. Use a specialist non-biological wool detergent and wash at 30°C on a low-spin setting or hand-wash.
  2. Once out of the machine, do not wring. Gently squeeze any excess water.
  3. Do not hang woollens to dry, as this could stretch the shape.
  4. Dry flat on a rack and place a towel underneath to catch any water.
  5. Never tumble-dry.
  6. Steam if needed, but never iron flat.

How to store

  1. Once dry, fold and store, preferably zipped in a breathable cotton bag to protect from moths. Avoid plastic packaging which can trap moisture.
  2. It is always best to store wool clean.
  3. Knitwear should not be hung for any length of time or it will lose its shape.
  4. Pilling (or bobbling) is a natural characteristic in even the most luxurious wool yarns – the softer fibres make this more likely to happen. Be wary of abrasion when wearing and lightly remove bobbles with a pilling comb before storing.
