Our year in review

As 2023 draws to a close, we’re reflecting on the year and all the good things we’ve achieved.

For nearly 30 years, our brand has been passionate about giving back and we’ve been working hard to make more and more positive change for people and our planet. We’ve been busy raising money for The White Heart Foundation, our group of charity partners, and making strides in sustainability.

Of course, none of this would be possible without you, so we want to say a heartfelt thank you for all your support this year. Let’s take a look at what we’ve accomplished together.

The Prince’s Trust

The Prince’s Trust supports vulnerable and disadvantaged young people in the UK to find their confidence and helps them into employment, further training or to become self-employed. As a Gold Patron, our founder Chrissie Rucker OBE believes all young people deserve an equal chance to succeed, so this charity is close to her heart. We’ve been doing our part to help this year…

The Brilliant Breakfast

At 20 of our stores, at our head office, in homes across the country, even at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro (thanks to our CEO Mary) – we hosted more Brilliant Breakfasts than ever, bringing women together from all over the country to raise money.

International Women’s Day

Chrissie is the Founding Patron of the #ChangeAGirlsLife campaign, something we’ve been supporting for five years. This year, we donated £5 from every candle sold over the week of International Women’s Day. We celebrated International Women’s Day at our head office, too, with a panel talk hosted by some of our inspirational women across the business.

St Mungo’s

Since partnering with St Mungo’s, we’ve created bespoke charity Christmas cards each year and donated 10% of sales to help them in their mission to end homelessness. We also sent gifts for residents to make their Christmas mornings a little brighter.

Samaritans

Our team from Market Harborough completed a tour of all our stores to raise money for our employee-choice mental-health charity by walking, swimming and flying nearly 6,000 miles. The funds raised will go towards helping more struggling people access support from Samaritans’ incredible team of volunteers.

Sustainability news

Responsible Wool Standard

Our knitwear now officially meets the highest animal-welfare standards. You can discover more of the sustainable fabrics across our collections here.

Carbon calculation

We’ve partnered with Achilles, experts in sustainable supply chains, to help track and reduce our carbon impact.

CottonConnect

In 2022, we introduced the sustainable-cotton programme to 135 small-holder farmers we work with on some of our bed-linen collections. We’ve now expanded to 350.

Supplier transparency

We’ve partnered with Supply Shift, a portal that maps our supply chain right down to the raw materials.

We’d like to thank you for all your support this year. With your help, we’ve achieved so much, but we’re only getting started. We can’t wait to share more exciting updates with you in 2024.

Wishing you a wonderful new year,
The White Company
