Bed Linen Buying Guide

Two things to consider when
buying a mattress topper or protector

Not sure which one is for you? Here's the things to look out for…

1. Purpose

What are you using it for

Do you want added comfort, to help regulate your temperature or to protect the mattress?

For comfort

An extra layer of cushioning can be a comfortable addition to your bed or can help with mattresses that are a bit too firm or losing some of their support over time.

To help regulate your temperature

For added warmth in winter, look to wool toppers that will feel extra cosy, while clever temperature-regulating options can help to keep you cool as you sleep.

To protect the mattress

Extend the life of your mattress with a protector. Choose from pure-cotton or waterproof layers which help guard against any spillages.

2. Materials

What is it made from

Natural or synthetic, there’s a range of high-quality filling and layer options to choose from.

Feather & down

Usually from goose or duck. Feathers are larger and used to offer support, while down is lighter and loftier so, the higher the down percentage, the softer and plumper the topper will feel.

Merino wool

Known for its comfort and natural temperature regulating properties, the fabric helps keep you cosy in winter months, while its breathability also helps you stay cool when on warm nights.

The Wool Room wool

The Wool Room offers bedding that is certified by the Allergy UK Seal of Approval™. All their products have been tested for DERP1 dust mites, allergen, bacteria and fungus and are ethically sourced from fully traceable British farms through the Wool ID® scheme.

Hypoallergenic filling

Ideal for allergy sufferers, soft polyester and encased in breathable cotton and quilted with diamond stitches, so the filling will stay perfectly plump and evenly distributed.

Outlast® coated cotton

The innovative technology works to store excess heat until your body temperature decreases, then slowly releases the heat to provide a consistent temperature, while remaining soft and comfortable.

Cotton-Rich Waterproof fabric

A premium waterproof option. Often this type of protector can be noisy and scratchy, but this is super soft and luxurious, thanks to a discreet waterproof membrane on the reverse while still protecting against spills.

Antimicrobial Micro-Fresh technology

This fabric is treated technology which slows the growth of bacteria that can cause odours and is gentle and kind to skin.
